Getting the “Who” and the “Where”
The process begins with receiving a signed release from the applicant, giving Pre-Check authorization to conduct the criminal search along with other services. Then, using the Social Security Number, we identify previous addresses that your job candidate may or may not have told you about. Our court researchers then conduct targeted searches of court records based on the address history we find with the SSN.
Our researchers are trained to verify that any reported criminal history actually belongs to the applicant, so you’ll never get the wrong record. We match unique identifiers to avoid potential litigation, providing you with “maximum possible accuracy.” *


“Scraping” the Records
The next component consists of “scrapping” or collecting criminal histories, both felonies and misdemeanors, from the jurisdictional state where Applicant lives. This is extremely important because, in addition to felonies, misdemeanors will be very telling about how the Applicant meets your company’s policy as it relates to your criminal guidelines.
Individual Prosecutors determine whether a certain quantity of illegal substances is a felony or a misdemeanor. Finally, Pre-Check will conduct a physical search of the court records. Here, a court researcher goes to the county or municipal court and confirms that the record belongs to your Applicant, not someone with the same name, which often electronic databases can’t distinguish. The researcher has the understanding and correct identifiers to make certain that a criminal record belongs to the right Michael B. Smith, not someone with just the same name.
